The Role of a Prayer Leader

The prayer leader is a member of the church who organizes, schedules and provides general leadership for the church’s prayer activities. Working with the pastor, the prayer leader gives energy and direction to the church’s prayer ministry.

Prayer is the source of power that releases the anointing of the Holy Spirit within the church to do God’s will. The local church has a greater chance to experience spiritual revival as the prayer leader stays focused on their role.

Qualifications of a Prayer Leader

1.The prayer leader should be called of God as one with special gifting and desire to pray. They must exhibit a strong personal prayer life in order to lead with authority. They can only lead people to the depth of prayer they have gone to themselves.

2.The prayer leader must be committed and loyal to Christ, their pastor, leadership and to the vision of Victory Outreach.

3.The prayer leader is expected to tithe faithfully and be an active United We Can member.

4.They should exhibit evident leadership skills as an intercessor and as a leader.

5.The prayer leader should have the ability to lead and mobilize groups, large or small, in corporate prayer.

6.The prayer leader should demonstrate spiritual maturity and have the confidence of their church leadership.

7.They should be a team player. Much of the success of the prayer ministry will depend upon the prayer leader’s ability to develop and work with a team.

8.They should be available to coordinate activities of the prayer ministry within their church, as well as attend regional and community prayer events.

9.It is necessary to have access to the internet and have the ability to send and receive e-mail.

10.It is vital that they are reachable at all times via email, cell phone or text messaging.

11.It is essential for the leader to possess a teachable spirit as well as a desire to grow and be trained in the ministry of prayer.
